Halo-halo is a popular cold Filipino dessert which is made from crushed ice, evaporated milk and a concoction of sweetened beans, banana, leche flan (creme caramel), coconut sport strings, kaong (sugar palm fruit), Nata de Coco (coconut gel), ube halaya, jackfruit slices, and topped with Ube (purple yam) ice cream.
The word Halo-halo literally means “mix-mix”, and that is in fact, how you should eat it. While it’s very tempting to eat the toppings right away, the proper way to eat this dessert is to mix all the ingredients together.
